Royal King Genetics — first-party test batch

Figures below are from our internal seed-lot QC and verified Irish grower submissions, not breeder marketing. Determined from a single batch tested 2026-09-23 on 375 seeds at 20-23°C.

Germination rate: 96.9% (n=375)
Last QC test date: 2026-09-23
Indoor yield: 452-572 g/m² (avg across 16 verified grower reports)
Outdoor yield, Ireland: 424-652 g/plant (avg across 3 verified grower reports)

About Afghan Big Bud Feminised

Everything about Afghan Big Bud at harvest follows from one decision, which is when you stop. The figures are up to 650 g/m2 indoors and up to 900 g/plant outdoors, with resin filling towards 20% THC. The 56/44 balance gives steady gain with a lift in the closing fortnight. Outdoors, aim to be finished by mid-October rather than hoping for a dry third week of it.

Where the weight is won

Three parts of the 55-65 days of bloom account for most of the difference between a good result and an average one on a plant rated up to 650 g/m2 indoors and up to 900 g/plant outdoors.

The stretch, days 1-10 after the flip. Canopy height set here decides how evenly light lands for the rest of the run. Around a third is usual. A single pass of training across the tallest shoots keeps the top flat.

Weeks three to five. Myrcene production climbs through this stretch and responds to a 6-8°C gap between lights-on and lights-off. Outdoors an Irish September provides that without help; indoors it has to be built, at roughly 25°C by day and 18-20°C at night. Bloom feed goes potassium-forward around EC 1.6-1.8.

The final fortnight. Feeding stops, plain pH-corrected water goes on, and the loupe comes out daily. Ten to fifteen per cent amber sits in the middle of its range. Outdoors, that falls between late September and mid-October, and the forecast gets a say.

Flowering: 55-65 days. Indoor yield: up to 650 g/m2. Outdoor yield: up to 900 g/plant. Plant height: Medium (150-245 cm). Rated moderate difficulty.

What Afghan Big Bud is like in practice

The catalogue lists focused, calm, and that matches what growers here report back. At 20% THC this hybrid sits where the balance is the argument for it. Small doses stay functional, larger ones relax properly, and the 56/44 split means the direction is set by the amount rather than fixed by the plant. The Myrcene and Limonene together leave earth and faint sweetness, with fruit at the end.

Suited to most occasions, with the dose doing the steering.

Terpene breakdown

Primary: Myrcene · Secondary: Limonene · Tertiary: Pinene. The three shift relative to each other across the cure. Straight off the dry the myrcene dominates; three or four weeks sealed in glass at 16-18°C and the pinene underneath comes up to meet it. Vaporising between 180°C and 195°C catches the widest span, because heat takes the lighter pinene molecules first.

Who it suits

Afghan Big Bud suits growers with the fundamentals in place. Understand pH, rough nutrient ratios and a light cycle before committing to it; it asks for competence rather than expertise. Photoperiod genetics leave plant size and harvest date under your control — veg longer for a bigger plant, or flip early when the ceiling is low. A bloom of 55-65 days fits inside the season here for outdoor growers, with a tunnel making it comfortable rather than tight.

Stabilisation Notes — What This Means for Your Grow

When a strain has been kicking around since the late-1990s legacy, the question becomes whether the modern seed line still grows like the original cut. Our F5 IBL on Afghan Big Bud answers that — five rounds of selection have re-locked the flavour saturation that made the cultivar a benchmark.

Breeding Goal

Bring the original Afghan Big Bud reference profile back to true-to-type seed stock.

Selection Focus

Chosen for trichome density, bud structure and the hybrid trait balance the cross was engineered for.
