Days 1-14, germination and early veg. Amherst Diesel generally cracks within about two days on damp kitchen paper and is above the medium by day three. The first fortnight came in quick and reaching, narrow leaves angled up from the start. Five nodes by day 14 with real space between them, which tells you what is coming after the flip. Keep the humidity near 70% and damping off stops being a concern.

Weeks 3-6, veg. It wanted to climb. Low-stress training from week three was not enough on its own, so the main stem went over at a right angle in week four and the secondaries levelled up behind it.

Bloom, weeks 1-10. The 12/88 character came through clearly. Pinene was noticeable by week three and kept building; resin was obvious without a loupe from about week five. Indoor yield: 350–550 g/m². Height: Tall (150 cm+). Tested at 27%. Rated beginner friendly.

Weeks 4-6, mid-bloom. Loose clusters from week three closed up into defined colas. Buds kept extending rather than thickening, stacking calyxes along the stems. The lower sites did better than expected, because an open plant lets light reach places a bushy one shades out.

Ripening, weeks 8-10. Plain water for the last ten days. Pinene was strong enough by then that carbon filtration was not optional in a terraced house. Heads went clear to milky over the final fortnight, amber showing on sugar leaves first, and around 15% amber on the calyxes is a defensible place to stop.

Drying and curing. Hung whole in the dark at 17°C and 58% humidity for twelve days, both held by a dehumidifier because an October room here will hold neither. Stems snapped instead of bending, which is the only test worth trusting. Four weeks in glass after that. The 350–550 g/m² figure held up. Limonene was far more present after the cure than at harvest — the cure makes flavour, it does not merely preserve it.

Flowering: 8-10 weeks. Indoor yield: 350–550 g/m². Outdoor yield: 1000 g per plant. Plant height: Tall (150 cm+). Rated beginner friendly difficulty. Regular seeds, autoflowering.

Amherst Diesel arrives in order. The first draw at 27% THC gives resin and green wood, clean rather than sweet. The creative, energetic, calm character follows in minutes, as attention sharpening. Colour and sound both read busier, and conversation goes further afield than it otherwise would. It holds two to three hours without a spike. Limonene underneath contributes a lift that stops it going heavy.

Primary: Pinene · Secondary: Limonene · Tertiary: Caryophyllene. This is a combination that turns up repeatedly in cultivars people rate, and it is usually what gets commented on when a jar is opened for the first time after a proper cure. Pinene anchors it, limonene holds the middle, and caryophyllene sits behind both — the last of those being what separates this from other strains leading on the same terpene.

Who does well with Amherst Diesel? Back-garden and balcony growers in Dublin, Cork and Galway. Anyone who wants a crop dry and put away before the autumn closes in. Indoor growers short of headroom.
