Outdoors in a wet spring the slugs do more damage to seedlings than every insect on the plot, and they do it in a single night.

A polytunnel changes the arithmetic on Punch Pie more than any other single purchase. It adds a fortnight at both ends of the season, keeps the rain off the flower during the weeks that matter, and turns a marginal outdoor crop into a reliable one.

Primary: Limonene · Secondary: Caryophyllene · Tertiary: Linalool. The three shift relative to each other across the cure. Straight off the dry the limonene dominates; three or four weeks sealed in glass at 16-18°C and the linalool underneath comes up to meet it. Vaporising between 180°C and 195°C catches the widest span, because heat takes the lighter linalool molecules first.
