Growing Tyson in Ireland is a question of rain and wind rather than of heat or latitude. The whole island runs temperate oceanic, so nowhere is meaningfully warmer than anywhere else — what changes as you move west is how many wet days land on the plant while it is in flower. Outdoors that makes bud structure and the 50-60 days of bloom the two things worth reading before anything else, because a dense cola and a wet October are a poor combination. Under a tunnel or under lights the argument disappears: Tyson is then judged on its genetics and on nothing else.

The pressures here are consistent and they are nearly all about water. Botrytis in dense flower from September onwards is the first, and it is answered with open structure, moving air and a roof — not with anything sprayed on afterwards. Indoors, spider mite and thrips arrive the way they always do, and humidity above 60% in late bloom is what turns a manageable problem into a lost room. Outdoors in a wet spring the slugs do more damage to seedlings than every insect on the plot, and they do it in a single night.

A polytunnel changes the arithmetic on Tyson more than any other single purchase. It adds a fortnight at both ends of the season, keeps the rain off the flower during the weeks that matter, and turns a marginal outdoor crop into a reliable one.

Tyson arrives in order. The first draw at 17% THC gives peppercorn heat that lands at the back of the throat. The relaxed, calm character follows in minutes, as weight behind the eyes that works down through the shoulders. By a quarter of an hour it reads as physical stillness rather than sedation — a strong disinclination to stand up. Two to three hours at a sensible dose. Myrcene underneath contributes depth beneath the rest.

Primary: Caryophyllene · Secondary: Myrcene · Tertiary: Bisabolol. The three shift relative to each other across the cure. Straight off the dry the caryophyllene dominates; three or four weeks sealed in glass at 16-18°C and the bisabolol underneath comes up to meet it. Vaporising between 180°C and 195°C catches the widest span, because heat takes the lighter bisabolol molecules first.

Who does well with Tyson? Back-garden and balcony growers in Dublin, Cork and Galway. Anyone who wants a crop dry and put away before the autumn closes in. Indoor growers short of headroom. The autoflowering genetics run to their own clock, so there is no schedule to manage and no anxiety about light leaks. Rated easy, which means a moderate learning curve that rewards attention without needing specialist kit.
